I decided that writing was the living for me while living in a thatched rondavel on the banks of the Olifants River with bats zooming overhead and geckoes frolicking under my pillow. That year in South Africa, I learned how to get a rhinoceros out of a swimming pool, never to leave my windows open (baboons!), and how not to outrun an elephant.
When I wasn’t adjusting to being the middle of the food chain, I was writing and editing for Africa's Top Wildlife Countries and Eco-Journal IV, a publication of sightings and projects by CC Africa, Africa’s leading ecotourism organization. That started my love affair with sustainable conservation and community empowerment, issues that are near and dear to my heart.
I now live in San Francisco with my husband, Simons, a tremendously talented architect, and our generally faithful spaniel, Beulah. Occasionally homesick for Charleston grits and Lowcountry oysters, we have to get our inspiration from sunrise runs under the Golden Gate Bridge and surfing adventures in Baja.
I’m passionate about travel and the arts, experiencing a culture from every angle. My portfolio includes environment and tourism, food, wine and entertaining, financial education for women, relationships, speech writing, business, health and fitness, five star weddings, fashion, home and interior design, and even dogs. From covering Charlotte Beers "the most powerful woman in advertising" to prima ballerina, Nina Ananiashvili, I'm not afraid to ask the hard questions. My forte is finding the human angle of any story, no matter how technical.
I'm creative, love new assignments and challenges, and work extremely well under pressure. Writing allows me to do something new every day, and you'll find me interested and invested in every new assignment.
